Die Cast Supervisor/Technician

Job Description

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, coordinate and schedule duties of Die Cast workers involved in operating Trim Press machines (moulds), furnaces, overhead cranes
  • organize shift schedules to meet the production needs of the Die Cast department and the supporting departments within the plant
  • Order materials and supplies as needed
  • Work collaboratively with cross functional teams to meet production requirements and improve production processes.  Work with partnering departments to identify and resolve any quality and productivity issues.
  • Train staff in job duties, safety procedures and company policies
  • Develop and program casting machine parameters to optimize production process overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)
  • Monitor, assess, and adjust machine operating characteristics during a production run to maintain output
  • Collaborate with tool engineering to improve casting process output and production part quality
  • Knowledge of part print reading and understanding of casting quality requirements to judge part quality and optimize as needed
  • Program and develop robotic operating routines specific to the die casting machine.   Adjust and troubleshoot robot operation to ensure quality standards are maintained. 
  • Integrate, teach, program and troubleshoot ABB robots in existing equipment.
  • Knowledge of SafeMove (ABB specific) and CAN/CSA-Z434-14 (or newest) Industrial robot standard or equivalent
  • Knowledge of industrial communication and peripheral communication devices.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics and hydraulic systems.


Skills & Qualifications:

    • Supervisory experience
    • Automotive Manufacturing experience (2+ years)
    • Mechanical Engineering Degree (Automotive Option)
    • 2+ years of experience in an automation/production environment including robotics.
    • An in-depth knowledge and understanding of die casting machines, operations and troubleshooting.
    • Knowledge of foundry ladles, die sprayers, and extractor robots; a must have.
    • Experience with ABB robotics and robot programming required.
    • Self-motivated, eager to learn new technologies & skill sets.
    • Set priorities, manage time effectively & work on multiple projects.
    • Excellent written & oral communications skills
