As a Journeyperson Boom Truck Operator, you will be responsible for the operation of a large crane, up to 30 tons, mounted on a 7-ton chassis, under the direction of a Foreperson. You will be required to perform heavy manual labour under difficult and unfavorable weather conditions. Primary duties include:
- Operate the crane to lift and move large and heavy equipment, materials, supplies and safety devices.
- Inspect, clean, and perform routine maintenance on the crane, hoisting equipment and attached vehicle.
- Complete daily logs, National Safety Code Driver's Hours of Service form and other paperwork.
- Inspect, load and transport materials, supplies, tools, etc. to various locations.
- Report all necessary repairs to either the Foreperson or the Vehicle & Equipment Coordinator.
- Perform other duties when not driving the vehicle or operating the crane.
Qualifications
- A valid Class 3 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with Q endorsement OR a valid Employee Operator's Permit Class 3 with Q endorsement as per the fleet documentation and current Driver's Abstract.
- Must have a valid Alberta Journeyperson Boom Truck Operator Certification or equivalent interprovincial Red SEAL certification.
- High School diploma or equivalency (e.g. GED or CAEC [Canadian Adult Education Certificate]) will be considered an asset.
- Ability to complete tasks with limited supervision.
- Success in this position requires strong communication skills, the ability to persuade, influence and negotiate with customers, clients, and staff.
Working Conditions: This position requires exposure to weather and site hazards such as excavations, dust, dirt and wet.
Pre-employment Requirements
- A security clearance will be conducted.
- Applicants will be tested for appropriate skills.
- Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
