Equipment Operator – Wireline – Saskatchewan

Job Description

Location: Regina, Saskatchewan

WesTower Communications Ltd. is currently seeking an experienced Equipment Operator to join our Wireline construction team in Regina, Saskatchewan.

The Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe transport, operation, and basic maintenance of heavy equipment used in telecommunications and utility construction. This position involves transporting equipment to job sites and operating backhoes, skid steers, mini-excavators, and HDD support equipment to support underground utility construction.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Operate backhoes, skid steers, mini-excavators, and other equipment used for trenching, backfilling, and site restoration.
  • Transport equipment and materials to and from job sites.
  • Load, unload, and secure equipment in accordance with transportation and safety requirements.
  • Support cable installation activities, including cable pulling equipment, reel trailers, HDD/plow operations, and fibre conduit/cable installation.
  • Perform daily pre-trip inspections and routine equipment maintenance.
  • Identify and report equipment defects or maintenance requirements.
  • Participate in toolbox meetings, FLHAs, ground disturbance procedures, and other safety activities.
  • Complete required logbooks, bills of lading, and equipment hour logs.
  • Assist with general labour and site clean-up as required.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Class 1 driver’s licence is highly preferred; minimum Class 3 with air brake endorsement.
  • Clean driver’s abstract.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating backhoes, skid steers, or similar equipment in a utility construction environment.
  • Ground Disturbance Level II certification.
  • Knowledge of Hours of Service and Cargo Securement requirements.
  • Experience with cable pulling and fibre installation is an asset.
  • Mechanically inclined with the ability to perform minor repairs and routine maintenance.
  • Physically fit and able to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel and work overtime as required.

Work Conditions:

  • Moderate to loud construction environments.
  • Work in tight urban rights-of-way and remote rural locations.
  • Extended periods of driving, equipment operation, and physical activity.
  • Frequent travel and overtime may be required throughout Western Canada.
