Senior Lead Carpenter
**Rough Carpentry, Structural Framing & Finished Carpentry**
**Location: Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Ontario
**Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent, 35-40 hours per week

About the Position
We are seeking an experienced Senior Lead Carpenter to join our construction team as a senior field leader responsible for independently executing and supervising complex carpentry work on residential and light-commercial construction projects throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
This is a hands-on senior-level position, not an entry-level or general labour position. The successful candidate must be capable of performing advanced rough and finished carpentry personally while independently directing small carpentry crews and coordinating with other trades and subcontractors on active construction sites.
The successful candidate will be expected to take responsibility for carpentry work from initial layout through completion, interpret detailed construction documentation, organize work efficiently, identify and resolve site issues, maintain quality standards, and complete assigned work with minimal day-to-day supervision.
Key Responsibilities
* Independently carry out complex carpentry assignments from layout through completion, including planning the sequence of work and organizing required materials and labour.
* Perform and supervise structural wood framing, rough carpentry, layout, subflooring, interior framing, exterior construction and detailed finishing carpentry.
* Read and accurately interpret architectural drawings, structural drawings, engineering drawings, construction details, specifications and site sketches.
* Perform accurate material quantity take-offs and identify the materials, hardware and equipment required for assigned carpentry work.
* Establish and verify dimensions, elevations, levels, plumb lines, openings and structural layouts using appropriate measuring and layout equipment.
* Lead and direct small carpentry crews on active jobsites, assigning daily tasks and monitoring work progress.
* Personally perform advanced carpentry work while supervising the work of other carpenters and site personnel.
* Coordinate carpentry activities with project managers, subcontractors and other construction trades to maintain project schedules and avoid conflicts between trades.
* Review completed work and identify deficiencies, dimensional discrepancies, quality issues or deviations from drawings and specifications; determine and implement appropriate corrective measures.
* Perform detailed interior and exterior finishing work to a high standard, including accurate installation and finishing where required by project specifications.
* Monitor daily progress against project schedules and communicate material, labour, sequencing or site issues to project management.
* Maintain an organized and safe worksite and ensure that applicable Ontario occupational health and safety requirements and company safety procedures are followed.
* Work independently in situations where detailed instructions or continuous supervision are not available.
* Mentor less-experienced carpenters and provide practical direction regarding construction methods, workmanship and safe work practices.
* Coordinate the completion of carpentry scopes of work so that projects proceed efficiently from structural work through final finishing.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must have:
*At least 5 years, but preferably 10+ years of hands-on professional carpentry experience, including substantial experience in both rough/structural carpentry and finished carpentry.
* Demonstrable experience leading carpentry crews or serving as the senior carpenter responsible for carpentry work on construction sites.
* Extensive practical experience with structural wood framing, complex layout work, subflooring and related rough carpentry.
* Demonstrable advanced experience in detailed interior and exterior finishing carpentry.
* Proven ability to independently interpret architectural, structural and engineering drawings and translate drawings into accurate site layouts and completed work.
* Proven experience performing material take-offs and determining the materials required for assigned construction scopes.
* Proven ability to independently organize and complete carpentry scopes of work with limited day-to-day supervision.
* Experience coordinating carpentry activities with subcontractors and other construction trades.
* Demonstrated ability to identify construction deficiencies and resolve problems involving dimensions, layout, materials, sequencing or workmanship.
* Strong understanding of construction site safety requirements and safe carpentry practices.
* Valid Ontario Class G driver's licence and a clean driving record.
* Reliable transportation suitable for travelling between GTA construction sites.
* Own standard professional carpentry tools required to perform the position.
* Strong communication, reliability, organizational skills and attention to detail.
Technical Experience Required
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate practical experience with a combination of the following:
* Structural wood framing and complex framing layouts.
* Reading and interpreting architectural and structural plans.
* Engineering drawings and construction details.
* Accurate measuring, levelling, squaring and layout.
* Material quantity take-offs.
* Subfloor and structural sheathing installation.
* Interior and exterior carpentry.
* Detailed finish carpentry and high-quality installation.
* Jobsite problem-solving and deficiency correction.
* Crew direction and task allocation.
* Coordination with other construction trades and subcontractors.
* Working independently through an assigned construction scope from commencement to completion.
Language
English communication skills are required to communicate effectively with project management, trades, suppliers and other personnel on construction sites.
**Greek language skills are considered an asset**, as the company works with Greek-speaking clients and team members. Greek is not a condition of employment.
Working Conditions
The position involves working on active residential and light-commercial construction sites throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
The successful candidate must be comfortable with:
* physically demanding carpentry work;
* working indoors and outdoors and in varying weather conditions;
* climbing, bending, kneeling and working from ladders or elevated work areas;
* lifting and handling construction materials and tools;
* working around other construction trades and subcontractors; and
* travelling between GTA job sites as required.
