Hours per Week: 40

Hourly Rate: $41.91, increasing to $43.41/hour upon completion of IMT Certification provided by Western.

Facilities Management is responsible for the planning, development, engineering, construction, operation, maintenance and stewardship of all the buildings, infrastructure, sites and services within Western’s campus community. FM departments include the AVP’s office, Facilities Development & Engineering, Power Plant, Business Operations, Sustainability, Building Services, Facilities Operations and Parking & Visitor Services. Our integrated team provides exceptional service in creating and maintaining Western’s facilities and in serving the community.

 

Responsibilities

The Plumber will perform skilled plumbing work associated with drainage and sanitary sewage systems, domestic water systems, gas distribution systems, water purification systems, vacuum systems, and other related systems.

 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a recognized Ontario College program (or equivalent) apprenticeship training as recognized by Skilled Trades Ontario - Plumbing (306A)
  • Red Seal Endorsement (RSE) preferred
  • Certified and Registered as a Plumber (306A) by Skilled Trades Ontario (or Provincial/Territorial equivalent with Red Seal Endorsement (RSE)
  • Complete and maintain the Industrial Maintenance Technician (IMT) Gas Certificate as recognized by the Technical Standards and Safety Act (TSSA) and developed for Western University
  • Certified and registered as an Ontario Water Works Association (OWWA) Certified Cross Connection Control Specialist
  • Maintain a valid Ontario Drivers’ License
  • Valid First Aid Certificate including CPR

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years experience working as a Plumber within a large commercial, industrial or institutional setting

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the plumbing trade
  • In-depth understanding of tools, equipment, principles, materials, and terminology associated with the plumbing trade
  • Familiarity with roles within Facilities Management that interact with this position
  • Comprehensive knowledge in the current versions of all applicable legislation, regulations, codes and standards
  • Strong problem-solving and documentation skills
  • Skilled at investigating, identifying, analyzing, and documenting information in written or electronic form and resolving problems
  • Capable of lifting and transporting materials, bending, excavating, climbing, and reaching repetitively, as well as meeting the physical demands of the role
  • Skilled at working well in a team environment as well as autonomously with minimal supervision
  • Experienced in working in confined spaces or in areas containing designated substances as outlined in the OH&S Act and performing tasks in emergency situations
  • Proficient in interpreting work from electronic/written instructions as well as mechanical, electrical and geographical drawings/maps and producing sketches and diagrams
  • Skilled at communicating comprehensively through electronic, oral, and written means and responding courteously to instructions and feedback
  • Ability to build rapport with clients, leaders, and peers and foster respectful and productive relationships
  • Serves as a collaborative and dependable team member
  • Experienced in organizing and ordering work materials, tools, and supporting staff in the shop and on the job site
  • Maintains current knowledge of plumbing technologies and participates in ongoing professional development
