Job Description

Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for day-to-day Preventative Maintenance tasks and operational adjustments, installation, troubleshooting, overhaul, and repairs to production and packaging equipment and general facility related items.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

·         Read blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures

·         Install, align, dismantle and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment according to layout plans using hand and power tools

·         Operate hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes, jacks and tractors to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of machinery

·         Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions

·         Adjust machinery and repair or replace defective parts

·         Operate machine tools such as lathes and grinders to fabricate parts required during overhaul, maintenance or set-up of machinery

·         Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on machinery

·         Assemble machinery and equipment prior to installation using hand and power tools and welding equipment

·         Modify, repair, install, maintain, improve and troubleshoot various types of packing & process equipment in food manufacturing

·         Diagnose mechanical problems and provide quick, innovative solutions for mechanical equipment breakdowns by applying proven skills in the principles of mechanics, fitting, plumbing, basic welding, metal work, machining, troubleshooting and analytical problem solving

·         Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records

·         Responsible for equipment changeover, set up, take down and relocation of equipment

·         Perform preventative maintenance and trouble shooting

·         Recommend solutions to routine and unique equipment problems

·         Response to equipment problems in a timely & customer-oriented manner

·         Integrating all plant, quality, safety and security policies and guidelines into all day to day activities on the job

·         Maintain high standards of cleanliness and general housekeeping

·         All other duties as assigned


Skills and Education:

·         Ability to:

o   Follow verbal and written instructions in English related to job duties

o   Work in a team environment with continuous improvement efforts

o   Acquire new skills as per training provided

o   Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors as a Quality Focused, Service Oriented Team Player

o   Read and interpret technical specs and drawings

o   Operate machine shop equipment

o   Conduct PM program according to standards

·         Repetitive tasks & standing for extended periods

·         Handling medium heavy loads (up to 23kg/50 lbs)

·         Attention to detail

·         Completion of secondary school is required

·         Industrial mechanic (millwright) trade certification is required

·         5+ years previous experience in a food manufacturing environment performing relevant PM and repair tasks to manufacturing machinery and equipment
